Following her husband J.D. Vance’s nomination as the Republican vice-presidential candidate, Usha Vance has chosen to step away from her career. Usha, the wife of the U.S. senator from Ohio, resigned from her role as a corporate litigator at the San Francisco law firm Munger, Tolles & Olson.
In a statement to PEOPLE, a spokesperson for the firm confirmed Usha’s departure, praising her contributions and wishing her well in her future endeavors. This news followed the swift removal of Usha’s bio from the firm’s website, minutes after former President Donald Trump announced her husband as his vice-presidential candidate for the 2024 election.
Prior to its removal, her bio highlighted her impressive legal career, including clerkships with Supreme Court Justices John Roberts and Brett Kavanaugh, and her focus on complex civil litigation and appeals across various sectors. Usha expressed her gratitude for her time at the firm and her excitement to focus on her family.
Usha and J.D. Vance, who met at Yale Law School in 2013, have been married since 2014 and have three children: sons Evan and Vivek, and daughter Mirabel. Reflecting on the possibility of becoming the second lady of the United States, Usha admitted the prospect of scrutiny was daunting but saw their journey as an adventure. She emphasized their focus on supporting J.D. in his current role and maintaining their family life, leaving future possibilities open.
