US Vice President James David Vance is currently in Jaipur with his wife Usha Vance and their three children, soaking in the city’s royal legacy during a multi-day diplomatic visit to India. After meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a spiritual stop at Akshardham Temple in Delhi, the family landed in Jaipur late Monday and checked into the historic Rambagh Palace.
On Tuesday morning, Vance and his family arrived at the grand Amer Fort. Traveling in an open-top jeep from Hathi Stand, they admired architectural marvels along the route, including Maotha Lake and the Kesar Kyari Garden. To ensure security, the fort was temporarily closed to visitors, allowing an uninterrupted and secure experience.
The arrival at Jaleb Chowk was marked by a ceremonial welcome featuring two elephants, Pushpa and Chanda, decked in centuries-old Rajasthani ornaments such as antique necklaces and anklets. As a symbolic act, Pushpa offered her blessings to the Vice President, while Chanda adorned him with a garland of flowers. Folk dancers and musicians enhanced the welcome with traditional performances before the family embarked on a guided tour of the fort’s interior.
Following the Amer Fort tour, the Vice President’s itinerary included visits to Panna Meena Kund and the Anokhi Museum. After a brief return to the hotel for rest, Vance is scheduled to address the US Business Summit at the Rajasthan International Center. The summit will spotlight trade collaboration and mutual economic goals between India and the US.
Before lunch, Vance will receive a cultural briefing on Jaipur’s landmarks like Jal Mahal, Hawa Mahal, and the iconic pink-hued architecture that defines the city. The Vice President and his family will be treated to an authentic Rajasthani lunch.
Security has been ramped up across key locations, with US agencies and Indian officials working jointly to ensure safety during the high-level visit.
On April 23, Vance will depart for Agra from Jaipur Airport, spending around three hours at the Taj Mahal. Upon returning to Jaipur in the afternoon, he will visit the City Palace and meet Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari. The delegation is scheduled to return to the US on the morning of April 24.
