The United States extended warm greetings to India on the occasion of its 77th Republic Day, emphasizing the enduring and productive partnership between the two nations. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio congratulated India, highlighting collaborative efforts in defence, energy, critical minerals, and emerging technologies.
Secretary Rubio described the US-India relationship as a “historic bond” that yields tangible results for both nations. He noted that cooperation extends beyond bilateral engagement, reaching into regional security through the Quad, the strategic grouping of Australia, India, Japan, and the United States, which plays a pivotal role in ensuring a stable and open Indo-Pacific. Rubio expressed optimism about advancing shared objectives in the year ahead, reaffirming the United States’ commitment to continued collaboration with India.
India celebrates Republic Day annually on January 26, marking the adoption of its Constitution in 1950, which established the country as a sovereign, socialist, secular, and democratic republic. The day holds deep historical significance, representing the culmination of India’s independence movement and the establishment of constitutional governance founded on the principles of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.
This year, the Republic Day celebrations at Kartavya Path, stretching from Rashtrapati Bhawan to the National War Memorial, are elaborately decorated to highlight India’s remarkable journey. The program includes 30 tableaux—17 from States and Union Territories and 13 from various Ministries, Departments, and Services. The displays reflect the theme of “Swatantrata ka Mantra: Vande Mataram” and “Samriddhi ka Mantra: Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” blending the 150-year legacy of the national song Vande Mataram with India’s rapid development, military strength, cultural diversity, and growing self-reliance.
European dignitaries, including the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, are attending as Chief Guests. The celebrations also feature widespread participation from citizens, demonstrating the vibrancy of India’s democracy and the nation’s progress across multiple sectors.
Through its congratulatory message, the United States underscored the strong strategic, economic, and cultural links that define the US-India partnership, while celebrating India’s achievements and vision for a self-reliant future.
