US State Department Spokesperson Matthew Miller affirmed on Wednesday that fostering a free, secure, and prosperous Indo-Pacific remains a top priority for the United States, emphasizing their ongoing collaboration with India on various fronts.
During a media briefing, Miller highlighted the cooperation between the US and India on economic matters and the strengthening of people-to-people ties between the two nations. He underscored the shared commitment to promoting a free, secure, and prosperous Indo-Pacific as a cornerstone of their bilateral agenda.
Regarding the potential participation of the US delegation in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony, Miller indicated that no official announcements had been made yet but encouraged staying updated for any developments.
Responding to inquiries about the annual two-plus-two dialogue between India and the US, Miller affirmed its importance but refrained from disclosing specific details or scheduling, citing ongoing considerations.
Recognizing India as the world’s largest democracy, Miller commended the Indian government, voters, and poll workers for the successful conduct of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, describing it as the largest democratic exercise in history.
Expressing anticipation for continued collaboration with PM Modi’s administration, Miller emphasized that decisions regarding governmental coalitions are internal matters for the Indian people to determine, underscoring the US’s respect for their democratic processes.
Following PM Modi’s electoral victory, US President Joe Biden conveyed congratulations via social media platform X, lauding the partnership between India and the US and expressing optimism for a shared future of growth and cooperation.
In his X post, Biden congratulated PM Modi and the National Democratic Alliance on their electoral success, acknowledging the significant voter turnout and reaffirming the strengthening ties between the two nations.
The 2024 Lok Sabha election results, announced by the Election Commission of India, saw the BJP securing 240 seats and the Congress 99 seats out of the 543 constituencies. Earlier, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) unanimously elected Narendra Modi as their leader during a meeting held in Delhi, with 21 NDA leaders endorsing his leadership.
