In a letter to US House of Representatives Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Tuesday, US Congressmen Ro Khanna and Michael Waltz pleaded with him to allow Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address Congress jointly on his first state visit to the US. As co-chairs of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans, Khanna and Waltz wrote the letter.
Following an invitation from President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden, PM Modi will go to the US on June 22.
In their letter to McCarthy, Khanna, and Waltz, they stated, “We respectfully request your consideration in inviting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a joint address to Congress, highlighting the significance of the US-India strategic partnership and the shared values upon which it is built.”
According to the White House, the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the US on Tuesday will be a chance to reaffirm the strong relationship between the US and India.
The visit of PM Modi “will be a chance to reaffirm the deep and close partnership between the United States and India as well as the warm ties of family and friendship that connect America, Americans, and undoubtedly Indians together. “So the (US) President values it much,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre said in reference to PM Modi’s state visit to the US.
According to the White House Press Secretary, the visit will also deepen US-Indian ties and their shared desire to examine critical technological partnerships, including those in space, renewable energy, and defense.
According to the letter, the core of the US-India alliance is a shared commitment to democracy and the maintenance of an international order based on norms.
