Advisory board members of Indian descent will play a crucial role in directing the organization and the energy services and technology industries on matters pertaining to energy.
The US Energy Workforce and Technology Council elected Indian-origin leaders to the advisory board for the year 2023-2024, such as the president and CEO of ChampionX, Sivasankaran “Soma.”
Somasundaram, managing director and global co-head of Energy & Power Investment Banking at Piper Sandler, Sanjiv Shah, and president of Universal Pressure Pumping, Akshay Sagar.
Somasundaram, who was named the Houston Business Journal’s “most admired CEO” in 2022, is a member of the ChampionX board of directors. Since the company split from Dover Corporation (“Dover”) in 2018 and throughout its transformational merger in 2020, he has been at the fore in leadership roles. He holds a mechanical engineering bachelor’s degree from Anna University and an industrial engineering master’s degree from the University of Oklahoma.
In 2008, Shah began working as an analyst with Piper Sandler’s energy and power investment banking division. He spent four years in London and Zurich working for Citigroup prior to joining the company. In 2019, PESA honored him with the Industry Innovator Award. At the University of Manchester, he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics with honors.
Sagar was the president and senior vice president of Patterson-UTI Energy in Houston, Texas, until he joined the business in 2020. According to his CV, he has experience in oilfield services and drilling rig operations, with financial responsibilities across numerous product lines. He is a graduate of Erasmus University and IIT Delhi.
