The Uttar Pradesh government and the Union Ministry of Culture and Tourism are collaborating to transform Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj into a global cultural spectacle, aiming to attract over 400 million devotees. Spanning from January 13 to February 26, the 45-day event will feature an array of artistic installations, murals, and decorations throughout the city.
Maha Kumbh, held every 12 years at Prayagraj’s Triveni Sangam, symbolizes spiritual purification through immersion in the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers. This festival is believed to guide devotees toward moksha (spiritual liberation).
The upcoming Maha Kumbh will narrate its history through diverse cultural performances and exhibitions. Organisations such as the Archaeological Survey of India and the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts will collaborate on a digital exhibition exploring Kumbh traditions. The National School of Drama plans to present thematic plays, including Samudramanthan.
A grand ‘Ganga Pandal’ with a 10,000-seat capacity, along with three additional stages for 4,000 spectators each, will host performances by renowned artists. Another 20 stages will feature classical, folk, and celebrity performances from across India. The Sahitya Kala Academy will contribute with book exhibitions, seminars, and cultural discussions. Cultural documentaries will also be screened, enhancing this monumental celebration of India’s heritage.
