Abdulnasser Alshaali, Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to India, has lauded India’s active role in the ongoing West Asia crisis, emphasizing the influence of New Delhi’s constructive diplomatic approach. Speaking to IANS, he highlighted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s prompt call to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was a significant gesture of solidarity, reflecting the decade-long close partnership between the two leaders.
The ambassador noted India’s co-sponsorship of UN Security Council Resolution 2817 alongside 135 nations as a clear demonstration of its commitment to protecting state sovereignty and civilian safety. He stated that India’s credibility and long-standing engagement in the region amplify the weight of its voice on critical international issues.
Addressing the escalation of tensions in the Gulf amid the Iran-Israel conflict, Alshaali revealed that since February 28, Iran has launched 414 ballistic missiles, 15 cruise missiles, and nearly 1,914 drones targeting the UAE and its neighbours, actions described as “terrorist aggression.” Despite the attacks, the UAE has exercised “deliberate, calibrated, and strategic restraint,” maintaining national stability while safeguarding its citizens.
Alshaali stressed that Iran’s strikes on civilian infrastructure, including residential areas and airports, are unlawful. The UAE Armed Forces have successfully defended the country’s airspace and territory, ensuring daily life continues normally and critical sectors remain operational.
The ambassador reiterated that the UAE prioritizes diplomacy but will assert its full right to protect its sovereignty and citizens under the UN Charter. He emphasized that the UAE’s territorial integrity and the safety of those on its soil are non-negotiable, underscoring the balance between defense readiness and commitment to peaceful resolutions.
India’s proactive engagement, particularly PM Modi’s early intervention and UN Security Council advocacy, has been widely appreciated by the UAE, demonstrating the strength of bilateral relations and India’s standing as a credible regional partner.
