Indian immigrants in the United States, including Green Card holders, are facing heightened scrutiny at airports, with many reporting prolonged questioning under security checks. Some individuals have been detained for hours, particularly those returning after extended stays abroad.
Concerns have escalated following a statement by U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, who emphasized that holding a Green Card does not guarantee permanent residency. Reports suggest that under the Trump administration, immigration officials have intensified efforts to identify individuals residing unlawfully, leading to stricter inspections.
Legal experts have advised Green Card holders to renew their cards before expiration and to carry official identification at all times. H-1B visa holders are recommended to keep recent pay slips, while F-1 visa students should have university-issued documents confirming their enrollment status.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has also issued an advisory, urging Indian immigrants and visa holders to cooperate with extended inspections as part of new immigration enforcement measures.
