In a recent speech, former US President and likely Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump launched a scathing attack on Vice President Kamala Harris, questioning her competence and labeling her as an “insurance policy” for President Joe Biden. Trump’s comments come amid ongoing discussions within the Democratic Party about whether Biden should continue as the nominee for the upcoming November 5 presidential election.
At 81, Biden has faced criticism from some Democrats following his lackluster performance during a June 27 debate with Trump, where he struggled to articulate his points effectively.
Speaking to his supporters in Florida, Trump, 78, remarked, “Whatever else can be said about crooked Joe Biden, you have to give him credit for one brilliant decision, probably the smartest decision he ever made. He picked Kamala Harris as his vice president. No, it was brilliant. Because it was an insurance policy. Maybe the best insurance policy I’ve ever seen.” Trump insinuated that had Biden chosen a more capable vice president, he might have been removed from office already, but Harris’s perceived shortcomings protect him.
Trump further criticized Harris, pointing out that she was tasked with overseeing border security and deterring Russian aggression towards Ukraine, alleging both efforts were failures. He alleged, “Initially, she was assigned to oversee U.S. border security. She never showed up, never visited once. Consequently, the border is now the worst it has ever been.” He went on to say, “Afterward, she was dispatched to Europe to prevent Russia from attacking Ukraine. How effective was that? Not very. Both missions ended in catastrophic failure.”
Accusing Harris of socialism, Trump said, “I don’t think Kamala Harris’ California socialism is going to go down well with the people of Doral, the people of Miami, or the people of Florida. Because in Florida, we don’t like socialism. We want our freedom, right? We want our freedom.”
Trump further accused Biden, Harris, and the Democratic establishment of being entangled in a major scandal. He asserted, “Joe, Kamala, and the entire Democratic establishment have been caught red-handed in the midst of the largest scandal and coverup… it’s the biggest cover-up in political history. They are all co-conspirators in a sinister plot to deceive the American public about the cognitive abilities of the man in the Oval Office.”
