Former US President Donald Trump has nominated Dr. Anji Sinha, an entrepreneur, as the next US ambassador to Singapore.
Announcing the nomination on Truth Social on March 11, Trump praised Sinha, calling him a highly respected entrepreneur with a strong family background. He emphasized the importance of US-Singapore relations, expressing confidence that Sinha would prioritize American interests.
Dr. Sinha remains a relatively unknown figure, with no public presence on websites or social media. His appointment requires Senate approval before taking office.
The current Charge d’Affaires at the US embassy in Singapore is Casey Mace, while the outgoing ambassador, Jonathan Kaplan, was appointed by President Joe Biden in 2021.
During Trump’s first term, the US embassy in Singapore was led by a Charge d’Affaires. His earlier nominee for the role, K T McFarland, was selected in May 2017 but withdrew in February 2018 after the Senate stalled her confirmation. The delay was linked to concerns about her testimony on Russian communications.
The US State Department and embassy in Singapore have been contacted for further details on Sinha’s nomination.
