The United States views India as its most vital global partner, US ambassador-designate Sergio Gor said while addressing an audience at the US Embassy in New Delhi. Gor, who also serves as Washington’s special envoy to South and Central Asia, underlined that no other nation holds the same strategic importance for the United States as India. He also revealed that the next round of India–US trade negotiations is scheduled to resume immediately, signaling renewed momentum in economic engagement.
During his remarks, Gor emphasized the personal relationship between US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, describing it as authentic and rooted in trust. According to him, strong partnerships are built on honesty, even when disagreements arise. He stated that genuine friends may not always agree on every issue, but they possess the ability to work through differences and reach solutions over time.
Highlighting the broader scope of cooperation, Gor noted that trade is only one element of the bilateral relationship. He said both countries continue to collaborate closely across several key sectors, including security, counter-terrorism, energy cooperation, advanced technology, education, and health. This multi-dimensional engagement, he added, reflects the depth and maturity of ties between New Delhi and Washington.
Gor also spoke about the challenges involved in finalizing a comprehensive trade agreement, acknowledging that negotiations with the world’s largest nation are complex. Despite the difficulties, he expressed confidence and determination to move discussions forward and bring them to a successful conclusion. He confirmed that officials from both sides remain actively engaged and committed to progress.
Looking ahead, the US envoy hinted at a potential visit by President Trump to India within the next year or two. Recalling his recent interactions with the US President, Gor said Trump often speaks warmly about his previous visits to India and his rapport with Prime Minister Modi. He added a light-hearted comment about late-night phone calls from Washington, suggesting that the time difference between the two capitals could actually work to their advantage.
In a significant strategic announcement, Gor revealed that India will soon become a full member of the Pax Silica alliance. This US-led initiative aims to create a secure, resilient, and innovation-driven silicon supply chain among trusted partner nations. Gor said India’s inclusion reflects its growing role in global technology and supply chain resilience.
Concluding his address, Gor reaffirmed his intention to pursue an ambitious agenda as ambassador. He stated that the future of India–US relations would be shaped by mutual respect, shared leadership, and a commitment to strengthening one of the most important strategic partnerships in the world.
