TIME Magazine has revealed its prestigious ‘TIME100 Most Influential People in AI 2024’ list, highlighting the trailblazers shaping the future of artificial intelligence. This year’s roster includes a remarkable number of Indian-American leaders and innovators making substantial impacts in the field.
Among the standout names are Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google and Alphabet; Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft; and Rohit Prasad, Senior VP and head scientist of Artificial General Intelligence at Amazon. Other influential figures on the list include Aravind Srinivas, CEO of the AI answer engine Perplexity; Amandeep Singh Gill, the UN Secretary General’s Envoy on Technology; Divya Siddharth, co-founder of the Collective Intelligence Project; Anant Vijay Singh, product lead at Proton; Vinod Khosla, founder of Khosla Ventures; Dwarkesh Patel, host of the Dwarkesh Podcast; and Arati Prabhakar, Director of the US Office of Science and Technology Policy.
TIME Magazine categorized the top 100 into leaders, innovators, shapers, and thinkers, reflecting a diverse range of companies, regions, and perspectives. The list highlights figures such as 15-year-old Francesca Mani, who advocates for protections against deepfakes, and 77-year-old Andrew Yao, a prominent Chinese computer scientist calling for international AI regulations.
The magazine notes a shift in AI’s landscape this year, emphasizing the significant influence of major tech giants. These companies provide the critical funding and computing power essential for the rapid advancement of new AI startups.
In addition to Indian-American innovators, the list also features prominent Indian figures such as Ashwini Vaishnaw, India’s Minister of Railways, and veteran actor Anil Kapoor, who recently won a New Delhi high court case over the unauthorized use of his likeness by AI.
