The world’s biggest multi-stage lift irrigation project, Kaleshwaram, and the ambitious drinking water project, Mission Bhagiratha, both run by the Telangana government, have won praise from American civil engineers. When the World Environmental and Water Resources Congress was held in Nevada, USA, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) gave the old project international recognition.
On the Godavari River, Kaleshwaram was designed to transfer river water to irrigate dry regions in seven Telangana State Districts. The governor of Telangana, Narasimhan, the chief ministers of Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, K. Chandrashekar Rao, and Fadnavis opened it in 2019.
A proclamation honoring the lift irrigation project as an “enduring symbol of engineering progress and partnership” was given to the state’s IT and Industries Minister, KT Rama Rao, on the occasion by Maria C. Lehman, president of ASCE.
The minister was required to give a thorough presentation on the topic of “Many Benefits and Social Equity from Lifting a River: Story of the World’s Largest Multi-stage Lift Irrigation Project” at the conference, which had over 1000 attendees from all over the world.
Speaking at the event, KTR recalled Telangana’s extraordinary change during the previous nine years, emphasized Telangana’s tale of resilience and transformation, and provided a list of the state’s ground-breaking engineering accomplishments. Telangana is the youngest state in India.
