Dr. Swagata Banik, currently serving as the Medical Mutual Endowed Chair for Public Health and Population Health at Baldwin Wallace University, has been named the new dean of the Dennis R. DePerro School of Health Professions at St. Bonaventure University (SBU). Dr. Banik will begin his new role on January 21, following a national search.
Having been a faculty member at Baldwin Wallace since 2011, Banik has held several key academic positions, including dean of Graduate Education and Research and director of the Center for Health Disparities Research. His extensive background in public health and commitment to addressing health disparities align closely with SBU’s Franciscan mission of compassionate service.
Dr. Banik expressed his enthusiasm for the role, emphasizing the importance of expanding access to care, reducing disparities, and training culturally responsive healthcare providers. He aims to foster a culture of service and compassion within the School of Health Professions, empowering students to make a positive impact in their communities.
In addition to his administrative roles, Dr. Banik is an active scholar with numerous publications, editorial board memberships, and leadership positions in civic and professional organizations.
