Sunil Bharti Mittal, the Founder and Chairman of Bharti Enterprises, has been honored with the Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (KBE). The British High Commission in Delhi announced that he received the prestigious insignia on February 22, 2025.
A special investiture ceremony took place at the British High Commissioner’s residence, where Mittal was presented with the medal in the presence of family and close associates. The honor follows a 2024 announcement by King Charles III, recognizing Mittal’s significant contributions to UK-India business relations.
Lindy Cameron, the British High Commissioner to India, expressed her pleasure in presenting the award on behalf of His Majesty. She highlighted Mittal’s influential role in strengthening ties between the two nations through major investments in British companies like BT, Gleneagles, Norlake Hospitality, and OneWeb.
“Mr. Mittal has played a key role in advancing the UK-India economic partnership, notably through his leadership in the India-UK CEO Forum. Recently, he led a high-profile Indian business delegation to the UK, engaging with Prime Minister Keir Starmer and key officials to explore avenues for economic growth,” Cameron stated.
Mittal expressed his deep appreciation for the recognition, calling it both a privilege and a responsibility. He reaffirmed his commitment to fostering stronger business relations between India and the UK.
“As our nations continue to strengthen ties, I accept this honor with gratitude and remain dedicated to furthering our shared economic ambitions,” Mittal said.
Acknowledging the milestone, he thanked all those who had supported him on this journey.
