Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya is set to embark on her maiden official visit to India from October 16 to 18, 2025. The three-day trip marks an important milestone in the partnership between the two South Asian neighbors, as Dr. Amarasuriya’s agenda focuses on education, technology, and economic collaboration.
During her stay, the Sri Lankan leader will hold meetings with India’s key political figures to discuss a range of bilateral matters and areas of shared interest. The discussions are expected to cover new opportunities for cooperation that strengthen long-standing diplomatic and economic ties.
One of the highlights of her visit will be her keynote speech at the NDTV World Summit, jointly organized by NDTV and the Chintan Research Foundation in New Delhi. As Sri Lanka’s Education Minister and a strong advocate of innovation-driven learning, Dr. Amarasuriya’s address will emphasize regional collaboration in education and sustainable development.
Her itinerary also includes visits to IIT Delhi and NITI Aayog, where she will explore partnerships aimed at advancing research, higher education, and technological exchange between the two nations. A distinguished alumna of Hindu College, Delhi University, Dr. Amarasuriya will revisit her alma mater, reconnecting with the academic community that shaped her early career.
In addition, the Sri Lankan Prime Minister will attend a business networking event designed to boost trade and investment between India and Sri Lanka. This engagement reflects her government’s commitment to creating stronger commercial linkages with regional partners.
The visit symbolizes the continuation of regular high-level interactions between the two countries, which have historically shared cultural, economic, and strategic bonds. It aligns closely with India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy and the ‘MAHASAGAR Vision’, both of which underscore New Delhi’s commitment to fostering stability, prosperity, and cooperation across the Indian Ocean region.
Dr. Amarasuriya’s first visit as Prime Minister is expected to reaffirm the enduring friendship between India and Sri Lanka while opening fresh avenues for partnership in education, technology, and trade.
