Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, Jose Manuel Albares, is set to begin a two-day official visit to India, aimed at strengthening bilateral engagement across diplomatic, cultural, and strategic domains.
During the visit, Albares will hold talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar in New Delhi, where both sides are expected to review the full spectrum of India–Spain relations. The Spanish Foreign Minister is also scheduled to call on President Droupadi Murmu, reflecting the growing importance New Delhi and Madrid attach to their expanding partnership.
India and Spain have steadily deepened their diplomatic engagement in recent years, marked by regular high-level interactions and structured dialogue mechanisms. The two countries previously held a round of Foreign Office Consultations that reviewed bilateral cooperation in areas ranging from political and economic ties to cultural exchange and emerging technologies.
A key focus of the relationship has been preparations for the upcoming India–Spain Year of Culture, Tourism and Artificial Intelligence, which aims to promote people-to-people links while expanding collaboration in innovation and digital technologies. Discussions between officials have also included exchanges on regional and global developments, including cooperation in the global fight against terrorism.
India has consistently reiterated its policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism in engagements with Spain, underscoring the shared commitment of both nations to countering security threats and upholding international norms.
The visit builds on sustained diplomatic contact between the two foreign ministers, who have previously exchanged views on counter-terrorism and regional security issues. India has also expressed its intent to further deepen its multifaceted cooperation with Spain, viewing Madrid as an important partner within the European Union.
Albares’ visit is expected to provide renewed momentum to India–Spain relations, reinforcing cooperation in diplomacy, culture, innovation, and global security at a time of evolving international challenges.
