Padma Shri awardee Sonu Nigam has shared one of his fondest memories involving his son Nevaan Nigam. The senior playback singer, who will perform live for a Janmashtami special, recalled how his son used to dress up as Lord Krishna during his toddler years.
Sonu Nigam will be performing alongside playback singer Shaan for Janmashtami LIVE: The World Celebrates Krishna. Reflecting on the occasion, he said that Janmashtami has always been a deeply spiritual celebration in his family, with cherished childhood memories from both Mumbai and Delhi. He revealed that his family fondly calls him the “Krishna of the house,” and that his father shares his birthday with Janmashtami. This year’s celebration, streamed on JioHotstar, brings those intimate family moments to a larger audience.
Shaan also expressed his admiration for Lord Krishna, describing him as a deity who embodied wisdom, charm, and humility while never straying from the path of righteousness. He recalled his childhood fascination with Dahi Handi festivities and a memorable Janmashtami celebration where he felt that “devotion can dance, and music can smile.” Performing for Krishna today still evokes that same joy, only on a grander stage.
For the first time, Janmashtami LIVE: The World Celebrates Krishna will feature exclusive live feeds from revered Krishna temples across India and around the world. These include Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi in Mathura, Shri Radharaman Temple in Vrindavan, Shree Dwarkadish Temple in Dwarka, Shree Jagannatha Temple in Puri, and ISKCON temples in Juhu, Mayapur, Vrindavan, Sydney, and Budapest.
The event is set to premiere on August 16, 2025, on JioHotstar.
