In the midst of political discourse surrounding the January 22 inauguration of the Ram Temple, Congress leader Acharya Pramod Krishnam expressed that those declining the invitation to the grand event are unfortunate. Responding to comments by Karnataka minister Dasharathaiah Sudhakar, who accused the BJP of exploiting the event for electoral gains, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah affirmed support for the temple, emphasizing their favorable stance.
Acharya Pramod criticized the unfortunate politicization of the event, stating that such negativity contradicts the democratic spirit. He highlighted the need for constructive opposition rather than animosity towards Prime Minister Modi. He argued against opposition leaders undermining their own governments, emphasizing the importance of positive energy and unity in Indian culture.
While several opposition parties, including Congress and Shiv Sena, criticized the BJP for politicizing the event, CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury announced his decision not to attend the inauguration despite receiving an invitation. Congress leaders like Mallikarjun Kharge and Sonia Gandhi, among others, have been invited, but the party’s official stance on attendance remains unclear.
The controversy escalated with Karnataka minister D Sudhakar labeling the Ram Temple inauguration as a political stunt. His remarks questioning the PMO’s focus and accusing the government of seeking votes in Ram’s name triggered responses from various political figures, highlighting the divisive nature of the discourse around this significant event.
