In an uncommon turn of events, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif publicly confirmed that India’s ballistic missiles struck the Nur Khan Airbase and several other strategic locations on May 10. This acknowledgment contrasts sharply with Pakistan’s standard approach of denying Indian military actions.
Sharif disclosed that the Chief of Army Staff, General Asim Munir, contacted him around 2:30 in the morning to inform him of the strikes. During a public speech at the Pakistan Monument, Sharif remarked that despite deploying domestic technology and Chinese aircraft, Indian missiles managed to reach their designated targets.
Geo News reported Sharif stating that the Air Force utilized locally-developed systems and modern Chinese equipment in an attempt to safeguard the country, yet the precision of India’s offensive was undeniable.
Responding to the revelation, BJP leader Amit Malviya underscored the weight of Sharif’s acknowledgment. In a post on X, he pointed out how the fact that a head of state was awakened at night due to Indian missile strikes reflects the precision and impact of Operation Sindoor.
India launched the operation on May 7 as a measured military response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which left 26 civilians dead. The Indian Armed Forces targeted terrorist strongholds in both Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, reportedly killing over 100 operatives linked to groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba, and Hizbul Mujahideen.
Following these strikes, Pakistan initiated retaliatory actions, including cross-border shelling and drone attacks across the Line of Control and regions of Jammu and Kashmir. In response, India intensified its military efforts by hitting 11 air bases in Pakistan, damaging radar systems, communication hubs, and other strategic assets.
This cycle of aggression led to the announcement of a ceasefire understanding on May 10, signaling a temporary halt to hostilities between the two nations, even as diplomatic tensions remain heightened.
