Shakti, an international Fusion band composed of Shankar Mahadevan, Zakir Hussain, and John McLaughlin, has revealed its plans for a U.S. tour in August. Spanning from August 17 to September 16, 2023, the band will showcase their talent through multiple shows across various states.
The tour is set to commemorate two significant milestones in the band’s history. Firstly, it coincides with the release of their first studio album in 46 years, titled “The Moment.” Secondly, the tour will celebrate Shakti’s upcoming 50th anniversary, as they first formed in 1973.
John McLaughlin, one of the band members, expressed his excitement about the U.S. tour. He emphasized that Shakti has had a strong connection to American audiences since their formation. The band has performed nationwide, captivating audiences from coast to coast and from north to south.
Shakti’s tour will cover several states, including Boston, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Georgia, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Illinois, Oregon, Washington, California, Michigan, and Texas. Joining them as supporting acts are acclaimed American musicians Béla Fleck and Bill Frisell.
