A number of Indian Americans from the New York State Assembly, governmental organizations, commercial ventures, and advocacy groups have been listed in the City & State’s Power of Diversity: Asian 100 list for 2023.
In the Asian 100 list, Rohit T. Aggarwala, New York City Chief Climate Officer; Commissioner, New York City Department of Environmental Protection; Neal Kwatra, founder and CEO, Metropolitan Public Strategies; Satish Tripathi, president, University at Buffalo; Rajiv Shah, president, The Rockefeller Foundation; Preet Bharara, partner, WilmerHale; Nayan Parikh, president, Ashnu International; Dev Awasthi; vice president, Corporate and Legislation, Kasirer; Nikki Singh, senior manager of Policy and Advocacy, The Sikh Coalition; Vijay Dandapani, president and CEO, Hotel Association of New York City and other notable Indian-Americans were named in recognition of their influence in New York’s political, economic, social or cultural affairs.
Joshi, the Deputy Mayor for Operations, is in charge of a division that handles everything from quality-of-life issues to transit-related issues. Joshi is the point person for city operations for New York City Mayor Eric Adams. Her office has taken significant measures to advance the design development of the BQE Central, the city-owned section of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, according to a news release. Desai has played a significant role in advancing the rights of for-hire drivers in New York City as the head of the New York Taxi Workers Alliance, most recently by focusing on increasing their minimum salaries.
