Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, a duo from India, achieved a remarkable feat by winning the men’s doubles title at the Indonesia Open. This victory marked the first time that an Indian doubles pair emerged victorious in a Super 1000 event. Currently ranked 6th in the world, Rankireddy and Shetty displayed their prowess by defeating Malaysia’s Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yika in a convincing manner, securing straight-game victories with scores of 21-17, 21-18.
Prior to this triumph, the Indian pair had already made history by becoming the first Indian duo to reach the final of any Super 1000 tournament. In a thrilling semi-final match, they staged a sensational comeback against South Korea’s Kang Min Hyuk and Seo Seung Jae, winning with scores of 17-21, 21-19, 21-18.
Having previously claimed the title of Asian champions, Rankireddy and Shetty showcased their dominance by defeating the reigning world champions in just 43 minutes. It’s worth noting that the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour features different levels of tournaments, ranging from the World Tour Finals to Super 1000, Super 750, Super 500, and Super 300. Additionally, the BWF Tour Super 100 category also provides ranking points.
Each of these tournaments offers varying amounts of ranking points and prize money, with the Super 1000 level being the highest in both aspects.
