The 2016 romantic drama Sanam Teri Kasam, starring Harshvardhan Rane and Mawra Hocane, has made an unexpected comeback at the box office. Re-released after nine years, the film is now achieving the success it initially missed. According to industry sources, the movie’s two-day earnings have already exceeded its lifetime revenue from its original run.
On its opening day, the film grossed approximately $510,000, more than tripling its initial box office debut in 2016. By the second day, it saw an impressive 15% rise, bringing in another $600,000. This pushed the total earnings from its re-release to around $1.1 million, surpassing its original lifetime collection.
Many credit the film’s resurgence to its immense popularity on streaming platforms and television. Over the years, Sanam Teri Kasam has developed a strong fanbase, making it a sought-after film for a theatrical revival. Similar cases have been seen in Bollywood, where films like Laila Majnu and Tumbbad found renewed success during re-releases, despite their initial box office struggles.
Harshvardhan Rane, reflecting on the film’s comeback, expressed his gratitude in an interview. He recalled the disappointment of its initial performance but remained hopeful that the movie would eventually find its audience. “For years, fans have asked me to bring the film back, and my belief in it has only grown stronger. This re-release feels like a second chance,” he shared.
Meanwhile, Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi masterpiece Interstellar is also witnessing a strong re-release in India. The film earned around $290,000 on its opening day and saw a remarkable 40% jump on the second day, collecting $400,000. In just two days, Interstellar has grossed nearly $690,000, proving that some films only get better with time.
With Sanam Teri Kasam now outperforming its original box office run, its success highlights the power of nostalgia and digital popularity in shaping a film’s legacy.
