The announcement of a ceasefire between India and Pakistan on May 10 prompted a flurry of responses across India, including from Bollywood actor Salman Khan. Khan momentarily voiced his thoughts on social media, but the post was swiftly taken down. Shortly after the ceasefire was confirmed on Saturday, Salman Khan posted, “Thank God for the ceasefire…”, but took it down soon after.
Although the tweet was short-lived, it ignited a heated debate online. Some social media users commended Khan’s support for peace, while others criticized the timing of the message, especially given the tragic loss of 26 civilian lives in the terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22.
A critic expressed frustration, remarking, “Salman Khan remained silent for two to three days and then conveniently tweeted just after the ceasefire was declared.” True Indians should avoid watching his films from now on.” However, another came to Khan’s defence, saying, “Salman bhai has always stood for peace and harmony—not just with Pakistan, but with all our neighbours. The timing might’ve been off, but he’s backing the Prime Minister’s ceasefire call, and I believe that’s the right stance.”
Earlier, Salman Khan had expressed his sorrow over the Pahalgam attack, sharing an emotional post that read, “Kashmir, heaven on Earth, turning into hell. Innocent lives are being lost. My heart goes out to the families. Killing one innocent is like killing the entire universe.”
