Renowned Michelin star chef Vikas Khanna has revealed plans for a new restaurant in New York, set to open its doors on March 23. This establishment, named ‘Bungalow,’ holds a special significance as it pays homage to Khanna’s late sister, Radhika, who succumbed to an autoimmune disease, lupus, and related complications on February 28, 2022.
In a heartfelt social media announcement, Khanna expressed gratitude for the support of his followers, emphasizing that ‘Bungalow’ serves as a “cultural bridge between India and the US.” The chef also opened up about his personal challenges and past business endeavors that didn’t succeed.
Radhika, the chef’s sister, was not only a beloved family member but also a talented fashion designer and the owner of Estilo Inc, a women’s daily wear fashion brand. Khanna shared a touching tribute on the day of her passing, expressing the profound impact she had on his life.
To commemorate what would have been Radhika’s 50th birthday on March 23, Khanna chose this significant date to launch ‘Bungalow.’ In a video message, he explained that the restaurant aims to honor his sister’s life and celebrate the rich culinary heritage of India. Additionally, the venture is a tribute to kitchens, chefs, cookbook writers, street vendors, home cooks, and, above all, mothers who have played an integral role in nurturing souls.
Vikas Khanna, already a notable figure in the culinary scene, owns other successful establishments such as Junoon Restaurant in New York and Ellora and Kinara in Dubai. ‘Bungalow’ stands out as a special project that intertwines personal meaning and a dedication to the diverse culinary influences between India and the United States.
