Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das has achieved a remarkable feat once again, receiving an A+ rating as a central bank governor for the second consecutive year. The prestigious recognition was awarded by Global Finance, a U.S.-based magazine, which ranks Das among the leading central bankers globally. He tops the list of three governors who have received the A+ distinction, alongside Christian Kettel Thomsen of Denmark and Thomas Jordan of Switzerland.
In a social media update on platform X, the RBI announced, “Governor @DasShaktikanta received the award for A+ grade in Central Bank Report Cards 2024, for the second consecutive year. This award was presented by Global Finance at an event in Washington, D.C., USA.”
Das was honored with the award in Washington D.C. for his exceptional performance and adept leadership in guiding India’s central bank through various economic challenges. Global Finance employs a grading scale from A to F, evaluating central bank governors based on their success in areas like inflation control, currency stability, economic growth, and interest rate management. An “A” signifies outstanding performance, while an “F” indicates significant shortcomings.
Since 1994, the Central Bank Report Cards have been published annually by Global Finance, grading governors from nearly 100 countries and territories, as well as organizations such as the European Union and several central banks in the Caribbean and Africa.
In related news, Das has recently called on global institutions like the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to enhance the decision-making roles of emerging economies. He emphasized the need for these organizations to provide greater influence and access to resources for developing nations.
