Vivek Ramaswamy, the Republican presidential candidate of Indian American descent, is facing a setback as one of his key aides, Brian Swensen, resigns to join Donald Trump’s campaign. Swensen, who served as the national political director for Ramaswamy, is set to contribute to Trump’s political operations in early-voting states, particularly Nevada, as reported by CNN.
Despite being only months away from the primary elections, Swensen’s departure is seen as a significant shift. Tricia McLaughlin, a spokesperson for the Ramaswamy campaign, expressed good wishes for Swensen’s new role, stating that his exit is deemed beneficial for both campaigns.
In the realm of GOP voters, Trump has emerged as the clear frontrunner, leaving Ramaswamy, who has consistently aligned himself with Trump, ranked third in popularity, with Ron DeSantis securing the second position as the preferred presidential nominee.
Despite Ramaswamy’s active campaigning, making appearances at various events and even distributing free pies over the Thanksgiving weekend, his efforts have not translated into significant support according to various national polls. Despite investing a substantial amount, approximately $20 million, in his campaign, recent poll results suggest a decline in Ramaswamy’s popularity among voters. As of the end of September, his campaign expenditures exceeded $22 million, with a personal contribution of $17 million, according to Federal Election Commission filings. This comes at a crucial time as the presidential primary draws near, posing challenges for Ramaswamy’s bid for the Republican nomination, especially with Trump’s prominent standing in polls.
