Rajendra Apte, the Paul A. Cibis Distinguished Professor of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at Washington University School of Medicine, has been awarded the prestigious Outstanding Faculty and Staff Award. The award was given at the 26th annual ceremony, held on April 21 at 5:00 p.m. in Steinberg Auditorium on the Danforth Campus.
The Graduate Student Senate has organized this event for 25 years to celebrate individuals who have made significant contributions to students through mentorship, teaching, and service. The Graduate and Professional Student Council hosts the ceremony.
Dr. Apte shared his appreciation, stating, “Mentoring students, residents, research and clinical fellows, and junior faculty is the most fulfilling aspect of my work and something I deeply value. Being awarded the outstanding faculty honor by WashU’s largest professional student body is a tremendous privilege.”
Dr. Apte was nominated by students from the Masters, PhD, and professional programs at WashU for his outstanding dedication and leadership. The nomination was submitted by students Jason Colasanti, Zelun Wang, Joseph Lin, and Chas Pfeifer, with Lin and Wang delivering the award to Dr. Apte.
The ceremony featured brief speeches from students explaining their reasons for nominating Dr. Apte. Following the event, a reception was held at Weil Hall, where attendees gathered to celebrate the awardees.
Washington University School of Medicine is renowned for its excellence in academic medicine, with a focus on advanced biomedical research, patient care, and educational programs. The institution boasts 2,900 faculty members dedicated to advancing the future of the field.
