Raja Kumari has made history as the first artist of Indian descent to win an American Music Award (AMA), taking home the Favourite Soundtrack award at the 51st AMA event held in Los Angeles. She earned this recognition for her impactful song “Renegade (We Never Run),” which is part of the soundtrack for Arcane: League of Legends Season 2.
This milestone represents a major achievement in the career of the Grammy-nominated rapper, who is known for blending Indian classical sounds with Western hip-hop influences. The award-winning track was a collaborative effort with UK’s Stefflon Don and Dominican-Brazilian artist Jarina de Marco.
Reflecting on her accomplishment, Kumari shared that she has always viewed herself as an underdog, and this award affirms her mission to represent India on the global stage and reshape perceptions through her music. “I’m bringing this one home,” she declared.
A pioneer in the international music arena, Raja Kumari has performed at renowned festivals like Coachella and worked with prominent artists such as Gwen Stefani, Iggy Azalea, John Legend, and Fifth Harmony. Additionally, she has contributed vocals to several Bollywood chartbusters, successfully merging mainstream popularity with cultural roots.
Famous for her empowering messages and genre-defying style, Kumari continues to challenge conventions, demonstrating that Indian artists can carve out a significant presence worldwide. Her AMA win is more than a personal triumph; it symbolizes a breakthrough for Indian representation in the global music industry.
