Rahul Sahgal, a Swiss citizen of Indian descent, is poised to take on the role of CEO at the Swiss-American Chamber of Commerce (Swiss AmCham) starting in the summer of 2024. His election to the position, following a unanimous vote on November 14, 2023, marks the succession of Martin Naville, who has stepped down after two decades of service.
With an academic background in business administration and law from the University of St. Gallen (HSG), Sahgal brings a wealth of international experience in both corporate and government spheres to his new leadership role. His career trajectory began in finance and strategy consulting before transitioning to India in 2006, where he contributed to various endeavors within the Swiss machinery manufacturing sector, notably at Rieter and Autoneum.
During his tenure in India, Sahgal was actively involved in the Swiss Indian Chamber of Commerce (SICC), serving as a board member and later as president of its Northern Chapter from 2011 to 2013. Transitioning to Switzerland’s diplomatic arena in 2013, he served in various capacities, including a diplomatic attachment in Brussels and roles within the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) and the Swiss Embassy in Washington, DC.
Expressing his commitment to supporting members in safeguarding their business interests across global markets, Sahgal emphasized leveraging his extensive private sector and government agency experience. As the incoming CEO of Swiss AmCham, he aims to champion efficient and effective advocacy efforts, particularly in navigating economic landscapes in the US, Switzerland, and beyond.
Swiss AmCham, a prominent advocate for Swiss and American enterprises, plays a vital role in facilitating cross-border operations and advancing favorable economic policies. Representing a diverse spectrum of multinational companies in Switzerland, the chamber advocates for issues critical to their success and the broader prosperity of the Swiss economy.
