Senior servitor Binayak Dasmohapatra emphasized the significance of the Puri Jagannath temple among the four dhams and the need to maintain its sanctity. He stated that implementing a dress code for all devotees is crucial due to the temple’s spiritual importance and the hundreds of thousands of pilgrims who visit for Lord Jagannath’s darshan.
The Daitapati Nijog, a servitor’s body at Puri Srimandir, has been advocating for a dress code for devotees at the Puri Jagannath temple. They have expressed concerns about some visitors wearing inappropriate attire like shorts, which they believe offends the religious sentiments of other devotees. Starting from January 1 of the next year, visitors will be required to wear appropriate attire when entering the Jagannath temple, such as traditional clothing, while clothes like shorts, ripped jeans, and skirts will be discouraged.
Similarly, the Kainchi Dham Temple, also known as Neem Karori Baba’s temple, holds immense reverence among Hindus. To maintain the temple’s sanctity, its administration has issued a notice. The notice specifies that individuals wearing indecent, inappropriate, or revealing clothing will not be allowed to enter the temple premises, with the aim of preserving its sacred atmosphere. Other temples in Uttarakhand have also initiated dress code guidelines to ensure the sanctity of their religious spaces.
