Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to lay the foundation stone for the redevelopment of 508 railway stations across 27 states in India. This ambitious project comes with an investment of $3.3 billion and is scheduled for August 6th. The announcement was made through an official statement from the Prime Minister’s office.
Understanding the extensive use of railways for transportation throughout the country, Prime Minister Modi has emphasized the importance of providing world-class facilities at these railway stations. With this objective in mind, the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme was launched to revamp a total of 1,309 stations across India. The redevelopment of the 508 stations, which will have their foundation stone laid, constitutes a vital part of this initiative.
These 508 stations are spread across diverse states and union territories, with notable numbers in Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Odisha, Punjab, Gujarat, Telangana, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Haryana, and Karnataka, among others. The statement from the Prime Minister’s office (PMO) underscores that the project’s budget surpasses $3.3 billion, equivalent to Rs 24,470 crore. Elaborate “City Centre” master plans are underway for the development of these stations, with a focus on seamlessly integrating both sides of the city in a comprehensive urban development approach centered around the railway station.
The redevelopment project aims to offer modern amenities to passengers while also ensuring efficient traffic circulation, smooth multimodal connectivity, and clear signage for passenger guidance. The architectural design of the station buildings will draw inspiration from local culture, heritage, and traditions, aligning perfectly with the Prime Minister’s vision of effectively combining tradition and modernity for a well-rounded approach to progress.
