President Droupadi Murmu assured the nation that significant economic and social policies, along with landmark initiatives, would be unveiled during the upcoming Parliament sessions, particularly in the Union Budget. She emphasized the stability of the government with a strong majority, a rare occurrence in six decades, and highlighted the trust shown by the electorate in the current administration for the third consecutive term. The 18th Lok Sabha, she noted, holds historical significance, coinciding with the early years of what she termed the “Amrit Kaal” era and marking the 56th anniversary of the adoption of India’s Constitution.
Looking ahead to the forthcoming sessions, President Murmu underscored the imminent presentation of the government’s first budget of its current term, describing it as a comprehensive reflection of the administration’s broad-ranging policies and forward-thinking vision. She anticipated that alongside major economic and social decisions, the budget would introduce several transformative measures.
In her address to a joint sitting of both Houses, President Murmu congratulated the newly elected members of the 18th Lok Sabha, praising their electoral victories and urging them to serve the nation with dedication and a focus on fulfilling the aspirations of India’s vast population. She expressed gratitude to the Election Commission of India for successfully conducting what she described as the world’s largest election, surpassing decades-old voting records in Jammu & Kashmir.
Turning to regional developments, the President highlighted the government’s efforts to foster enduring peace in the Northeast, noting significant progress in resolving longstanding issues over the past decade. She emphasized the enhancement of connectivity and ongoing developmental initiatives in sectors such as education, healthcare, tourism, and employment. Notably, she mentioned the establishment of a semiconductor plant in Assam, a substantial investment aimed at positioning the Northeast as a hub for domestically produced semiconductor chips.
President Murmu also underscored India’s economic achievements, citing its ascent to the fifth-largest economy globally and its rapid growth despite global challenges like the pandemic and geopolitical conflicts. She outlined the government’s commitment to further reforms aimed at propelling India towards becoming the world’s third-largest economy. Additionally, she celebrated the enactment of the Women’s Reservation Bill as a landmark in advancing women’s participation in parliamentary and state legislative assemblies, highlighting it as a significant step towards women’s empowerment under her government’s development agenda.
