On the eve of India’s 77th Republic Day, President Droupadi Murmu addressed the nation, acknowledging the invaluable contributions of citizens across all walks of life. She paid tribute to artists, sanitation workers, armed forces personnel, and entrepreneurs for their relentless efforts in rebuilding and advancing the nation. Highlighting India’s rich spiritual and cultural heritage, President Murmu emphasized the country’s role as a messenger of global peace, stating that the stability of humanity depends on worldwide harmony and cooperation.
President Murmu also reflected on India’s journey toward economic integration, particularly lauding the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST). She underscored that GST has established a unified market, driving self-reliance and further strengthening the economy. Additionally, she noted the success of Operation Sindoor as a testament to India’s defense capabilities and commitment to strategic self-sufficiency.
The President commended the Indian diaspora, stating that overseas Indians bring pride to the nation on the global stage, reinforcing the country’s image as a vibrant and capable democracy. Public representatives were also recognized for their dedication to welfare and development initiatives, which align with the aspirations of citizens and enhance the nation’s progress.
In her address, President Murmu highlighted the role of entrepreneurs and innovative professionals in nation-building, applauding their contributions to India’s growth and self-reliance. She also drew attention to women’s increasing participation in civic life and governance, linking it to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s vision of political education through voting. Initiatives like the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign and the opening of over 570 million bank accounts under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana—over 56% of which are held by women—demonstrate tangible progress in empowering women economically and socially.
