Pradosh Vrat, a significant Hindu observance, is held twice a month on Trayodashi Tithi—during both the waxing (Shukla Paksha) and waning (Krishna Paksha) phases of the moon. Depending on the weekday, the vrat carries different names: Soma Pradosham (Monday), Bhauma Pradosham (Tuesday), and Shani Pradosham (Saturday). The fast is especially meaningful for married women, as it is believed to nurture peace and love within a marriage.
In the current Hindu month of Chaitra, the first Pradosh Vrat of the new lunar year will be observed on Thursday, April 10, 2025. Falling on a Thursday, this occasion is known as Guru Pradosh Vrat. What elevates its spiritual potency is the celestial alignment of Purva Phalguni Nakshatra and Vriddhi Yoga, along with the Moon’s placement in Virgo. Devotees believe that these planetary factors enhance the blessings received from Lord Shiva and his divine family when worshipped with sincerity.
As per the Hindu calendar, the Trayodashi Tithi starts at 10:55 PM on April 9 and ends at 1:00 AM on April 11, making April 10 the designated fasting day. The most favorable time for Pradosh Puja is between 6:44 PM and 8:59 PM, which is considered highly auspicious for performing rituals dedicated to Lord Shiva.
To observe the vrat, devotees begin their day with a cleansing bath and prepare for the evening rituals. A Shivling is placed for worship, and sacred offerings like bael leaves, aak flowers, hibiscus, and madar blossoms are presented. A lamp is lit, mantras are chanted, and fruits or sweets are offered as bhog. Listening to or reciting the Pradosh Vrat Katha, followed by an aarti, completes the puja, invoking divine grace for personal wishes and family harmony.
With its timing, planetary significance, and sacred rituals, Guru Pradosh Vrat 2025 is an ideal day for seekers to strengthen their spiritual connection and invite prosperity into their lives.
