Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit the United States on February 12-13 for a high-level meeting with President Donald Trump and key US officials. This marks Modi’s first trip to the US since Trump’s second presidential term began.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri highlighted that Modi’s visit, happening just weeks after the new administration took office, underscores the significance of the India-US relationship. Speaking at a media briefing, Misri emphasized that the trip reflects strong bipartisan support for this partnership in Washington.
“At President Trump’s invitation, Prime Minister Modi will make an official working visit to the US on February 12 and 13,” Misri stated. “The fact that he has been invited so soon after the administration change signifies the importance of our strategic ties.”
During his visit, Modi and Trump will discuss critical issues, including energy, defense, and trade. Misri noted that tariffs would also be a topic of discussion, with both nations engaging in ongoing conversations to address trade concerns. Modi will also hold a bilateral meeting with Trump in both restricted and delegation-level formats. Additionally, senior US officials are expected to meet with Modi, reinforcing the depth of India-US relations.
Beyond political talks, Modi will interact with top American business leaders and members of the Indian diaspora, further strengthening economic and cultural connections.
Before arriving in the US, Modi will visit France from February 10 to 12. In Paris, he will co-chair the AI Summit with President Emmanuel Macron and participate in discussions with top executives at the India-France CEOs Forum. The summit will focus on AI advancements and economic collaboration between the two nations.
With back-to-back visits to France and the US, Modi’s trip highlights India’s growing international engagements and its commitment to strengthening key global partnerships.
