India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Israel this week, a move that promises to significantly advance bilateral relations, according to Israel’s Ambassador to India, Reuven Azar. Speaking on X, Azar highlighted that the visit represents more than diplomatic meetings—it symbolizes a partnership built on trust, innovation, and a shared understanding of modern global challenges.
The visit is expected to accelerate key agreements, including a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), while strengthening defence ties through updated security arrangements. “India and Israel have maintained close cooperation in security and defence for years. With evolving threats, updating our agreements will enable collaboration on sensitive projects and joint technological solutions,” Azar explained.
Economic collaboration is also poised for growth. Azar pointed to the bilateral investment treaty already in place and said that the FTA discussions could reach fruition this year. Additionally, the partnership aims to support Indian infrastructure companies entering Israel, streamline financial cooperation, and promote innovation across sectors such as transportation, water management, agriculture, and academic exchanges.
The visit will also highlight cooperation in cutting-edge technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Quantum computing, and cybersecurity. Both countries plan to foster research and development initiatives, private sector investment, and high-performance computing collaborations to maintain a leading global position in these domains.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized the significance of PM Modi’s visit, calling it a historic milestone. He outlined a vision to forge a broader alliance of like-minded nations in the Middle East committed to stability, security, and technological advancement. Netanyahu described his personal rapport with PM Modi, noting their frequent exchanges and mutual visits as reflecting not only partnership but deep friendship.
This marks PM Modi’s second visit to Israel since 2017, a trip that previously opened new avenues in defence, agriculture, and water resource management. The upcoming visit is expected to solidify the India-Israel alliance further and chart the course for future collaborations across defence, trade, technology, and innovation.
