Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s warm interaction with the triumphant Indian women’s cricket team has captured the nation’s heart. The video, showcasing his engaging conversation with the World Cup-winning squad, went viral as he praised their incredible journey and the pride they’ve brought to the country.
PM Modi hosted the team at his residence, 7 Lok Kalyan Marg, on November 5, congratulating them on their historic ICC Women’s ODI World Cup victory. Sharing the video, he wrote, “Every Indian feels immense pride in Team India’s World Cup victory. It was a delight interacting with the women’s cricket team.”
During the heartfelt meeting, Modi commended the team’s determination, especially their stunning comeback after three consecutive losses and the social media criticism they endured. He encouraged them to spread the spirit of the ‘Fit India’ movement among youth across the nation.
Captain Harmanpreet Kaur reflected on meeting the Prime Minister in 2017, noting the joy of now returning with the World Cup trophy. Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana shared how PM Modi’s earlier words of encouragement had motivated them, emphasizing his continued inspiration for women across fields.
All-rounder Deepti Sharma, thrilled to meet the PM again, spoke about his earlier advice to keep striving for excellence. Modi also lightheartedly discussed Deepti’s “Jai Shri Ram” post and her Hanuman tattoo, which she said gives her strength.
The interaction was filled with personal and memorable exchanges. Harmanpreet asked the PM how he stays so present, to which he replied that mindfulness had become his way of life. Modi fondly recalled Harleen Deol’s stunning 2021 catch against England and Amanjot Kaur’s remarkable effort to dismiss Laura Wolvaardt in the final.
The Prime Minister applauded the team’s perseverance, urging them to inspire young girls and promote fitness in schools nationwide. India’s victory marked a monumental moment — overcoming early setbacks to defeat New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa en route to their maiden World Cup triumph, etching a golden chapter in Indian cricket history.
