Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his support for US President Donald Trump’s comprehensive plan to resolve the ongoing Gaza conflict, calling it a viable route toward long-term peace, security, and development for both Palestinians and Israelis, as well as for the broader West Asian region. In a post on X, Modi urged all stakeholders to come together in support of Trump’s initiative to bring an end to hostilities and restore stability. He later shared his statement in Arabic and Hebrew, signaling inclusive outreach to both parties.
The Trump-Netanyahu peace plan, announced on Monday, comes nearly three years after the war in Gaza began on October 7, 2023. The proposal comprises a 20-point framework designed to achieve a ceasefire, secure the release of hostages, and protect civilians on both sides. It also highlights the necessity of regional cooperation and international monitoring to ensure that the agreement is fully implemented.
The plan sets out specific measures, including a ceasefire within 72 hours, disarmament of Hamas, and a gradual Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. In the aftermath, a post-war transitional authority, reportedly overseen by Trump, would manage governance during the transition period. Prime Minister Netanyahu affirmed his support, noting that if Hamas refuses the deal or undermines it, Israel would act independently to achieve its objectives. Trump also assured Israel of full backing in such a scenario, while expressing optimism that peace in the Middle East is now “beyond very close” and potentially historic for civilization.
India has historically supported a two-state solution and was among the first countries to recognize a Palestinian state in 1988. Modi’s endorsement aligns with India’s longstanding diplomatic stance, emphasizing the need for dialogue, compromise, and sustainable peace.
The humanitarian toll of the nearly three-year conflict has been severe, with over 65,000 Palestinians killed according to Gaza’s health ministry. Modi’s welcome of the peace plan underscores the urgent need for ceasefire, protection of civilians, and cooperative regional efforts to end the protracted suffering and lay the foundation for long-term stability.
