Prime Minister Narendra Modi was warmly welcomed by the Indian community in Oman on Wednesday, as hundreds gathered in Muscat waving Indian flags and chanting patriotic slogans. The Indian diaspora assembled at the hotel, where the Prime Minister personally greeted and interacted with attendees and observed cultural performances arranged to celebrate his visit.
Arriving in Muscat earlier in the day, marking the final leg of his three-nation tour, PM Modi was received at the airport by Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs, Sayyid Shihab bin Tariq Al Said, and honored with a ceremonial Guard of Honour.
In a social media post, the Prime Minister described Oman as a land of enduring friendship with deep historical connections to India. He highlighted the visit as an opportunity to explore new avenues of collaboration and add fresh momentum to the India-Oman partnership. This marks his second visit to Oman, reinforcing the growing depth of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations. The visit is especially significant as it coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between India and Oman and follows Sultan Haitham bin Tariq’s state visit to India in December 2023.
During his stay, PM Modi is expected to hold extensive discussions with Sultan Haitham bin Tariq on trade, investment, energy cooperation, defence and security, technology, agriculture, and cultural exchanges. The two leaders are also set to share perspectives on regional and global issues of mutual interest.
Ahead of the visit, Ministry of External Affairs Secretary Arun Kumar Chatterjee stated that the Prime Minister would undertake a comprehensive review of bilateral relations and engage with business leaders from both countries to further strengthen commercial and investment ties.
India and Oman maintain robust cooperation in areas such as energy security, maritime collaboration, and regional stability, with Oman serving as a key strategic partner for India in the Gulf region.
PM Modi arrived in Oman following a two-day state visit to Ethiopia, where he addressed a joint session of the Ethiopian Parliament, laid a wreath at the Adwa Victory Monument, visited the Adwa Museum, and received Ethiopia’s highest civilian honor, the Great Honour Nishan of Ethiopia.
The visit underscores India’s commitment to deepening its diplomatic, economic, and cultural engagement with Oman, reinforcing decades of friendship and partnership while opening new pathways for collaboration in multiple sectors.
