Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasized the importance of collaboration between the government and the automobile industry to strengthen India’s path to self-reliance. Addressing the 65th Annual Convention of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) on September 11, 2025, the Prime Minister underscored the sector’s pivotal role in realizing the vision of “Viksit Bharat.”
In his written message, Mr. Modi highlighted that India presents immense opportunities for investment and innovation, particularly as the nation transitions to smart and sustainable mobility solutions. He described the auto industry as a “torchbearer of the Make in India initiative,” praising its contribution to global confidence in India’s manufacturing capacity and its growing reputation as a hub for automotive excellence.
The Prime Minister placed strong emphasis on sustainability, noting that the industry’s focus on electric vehicles and green technologies is fully aligned with India’s clean mobility mission. He added that such innovations would not only help reduce emissions but also open new avenues in automotive design, production, and deployment.
Mr. Modi pointed out that policy reforms and institutional support are creating a future-ready transport ecosystem. Recently, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman implemented changes in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) framework across sectors, including automobiles, textiles, and pharmaceuticals, to stimulate consumption and support growth.
The SIAM convention, themed around the “Sustainable Mobility Paradigm for Viksit Bharat,” brought together top government officials, policymakers, and business leaders to deliberate on India’s automotive future. Discussions revolved around advancing technological innovation, ensuring environmental sustainability, and positioning India as a global leader in mobility solutions.
With the government’s supportive policies and the auto industry’s drive for innovation, the collaboration is seen as critical to achieving India’s ambition of self-reliance while steering the country toward cleaner, smarter, and more efficient transport solutions.
