During his 51st visit to Varanasi, his Lok Sabha constituency, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated and launched development projects totaling nearly $265 million across various sectors. This massive push included infrastructure upgrades, cultural restorations, and healthcare advancements designed to improve life in the city and surrounding areas.
The Prime Minister inaugurated key road projects like the widening and reinforcement of the Varanasi-Bhadohi and Chhitauni-Shool Tankeshwar roads. He also launched a new Railway Overbridge at Hardattpur to ease congestion on the Mohan Sarai-Adalpura stretch. Additionally, foundation stones were laid for roadworks across both rural and urban zones, including corridors like Dalmandi, Lahartara-Kotwa, and Babatpur, alongside two new railway overbridges.
An investment of over $105 million was directed towards enhancing the region’s electricity infrastructure. Under the Smart Distribution Project, Modi laid the foundation for underground power systems aimed at improving reliability and safety.
Tourism in the spiritual city also received a significant lift. Eight riverfront ghats were redeveloped, along with upgrades at Kalika Dham and Rangildas Kutiya. Sacred water bodies such as Durgakund and kunds like Ramkund and Mandakini will undergo restoration and purification. The Kardameshwar Mahadev Temple will be restored, and cultural heritage sites such as Munshi Premchand’s ancestral house are set to be refurbished.
To make the city greener, Modi launched the development of a Miyawaki Urban Forest in Kanchanpur and enhancements to Shaheed Udyan and 21 other public parks.
Water access for rural residents was prioritized with the inauguration of 47 drinking water schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission, reinforcing the government’s mission for safe, potable water in every village.
In education, Modi inaugurated upgrades to 53 schools and laid the foundation for a new district library and the rejuvenation of multiple government schools, reflecting his broader vision of educational reform.
Healthcare infrastructure also received a major boost. Advanced robotic surgery and CT scanning equipment were installed at Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Cancer Centre and Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital. He also initiated a new Homoeopathic College and Hospital, along with a new Animal Birth Control and Dog Care Centre.
These efforts reaffirm PM Modi’s commitment to transforming Varanasi into a model urban-rural hub through sustainable development and inclusive growth.
