Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Mumbai for the first time since his third consecutive swearing-in on June 9, after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) won the Lok Sabha elections.
Around 5:30 p.m., the Prime Minister will arrive at the NESCO Exhibition Centre in Goregaon, Mumbai. There, he will inaugurate, dedicate to the nation, and lay the foundation stone for multiple infrastructure projects related to roads, railways, and ports, with a total investment exceeding $3.6 billion (₹ 29,400 crore).
At approximately 7 p.m., Prime Minister Modi will head to the Indian Newspaper Society (INS) Secretariat at G-Block, Bandra Kurla Complex, Mumbai, to inaugurate the INS Towers. This new building will cater to the modern and efficient office space needs of INS members, becoming a central hub for the newspaper industry in Mumbai.
Additionally, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for the tunnel work at the Goregaon Mulund Link Road (GMLR) Project, valued at over $780 million (₹ 6,300 crore). The GMLR aims to enhance road connectivity between the Western Express Highway at Goregaon and the Eastern Express Highway at Mulund. Spanning approximately 6.65 kilometers, the GMLR will offer direct connectivity from the Western suburbs to the proposed Navi Mumbai airport and the Pune-Mumbai Expressway.
Modi will also initiate the foundation stone for the Kalyan Yard Remodelling and Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal at Turbhe in Navi Mumbai. The Kalyan Yard project will segregate long-distance and suburban traffic, boosting the yard’s capacity to handle more trains and reducing congestion. The Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal, covering over 32,600 square meters, will create additional employment opportunities for locals and serve as a terminal for handling cement and other commodities.
Additionally, the Prime Minister will inaugurate new platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus and extend Platforms at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, specifically numbers 10 and 11. The new, longer platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus will accommodate longer trains, increasing the station’s capacity. Platforms No. 10 and 11 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus have been extended by 382 meters, allowing for trains of up to 24 coaches, thereby boosting passenger capacity.
Prime Minister Modi will also launch the Mukhyamantri Yuva Karya Prashikshan Yojana, a transformative internship program with an outlay of approximately $694 million (₹ 5,600 crore). This program aims to tackle youth unemployment by offering skill enhancement and industry exposure to young people aged 18 to 30 years.
