Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release the 22nd installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) scheme on Friday, marking another round of direct financial assistance to farmers across the country.
Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced that the installment will be released from Guwahati in Assam, with more than ₹18,640 crore set to be transferred directly to the bank accounts of over 9.32 crore farmer families through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism.
The initiative reflects the government’s continued focus on supporting farmers and recognising their contribution as the nation’s “annadatas”. Since the launch of the PM-Kisan scheme in February 2019, the government has transferred more than ₹4.09 lakh crore directly to farmers’ bank accounts.
With the release of the 22nd installment, the cumulative amount disbursed under the scheme will exceed ₹4.27 lakh crore.
Introduced under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, the PM-Kisan programme aims to provide direct income support to small and marginal farmers, helping strengthen the agricultural sector and improve rural livelihoods.
Under the scheme, eligible farmer families receive ₹6,000 annually in three equal installments, which are credited directly to their bank accounts.
According to the Agriculture Minister, more than 2.15 crore women farmers will benefit from the upcoming installment. The financial assistance helps farmers meet agricultural expenses such as seeds, fertilisers, pesticides and other essential inputs.
The support also contributes to household needs including education and healthcare, providing relief to rural families.
The government has emphasised that empowering women farmers and strengthening the financial stability of rural households remains a key priority under the initiative.
Officials have also pointed out that several independent studies indicate the PM-Kisan scheme has helped boost the rural economy by reducing farmers’ dependence on loans and encouraging greater investment in agricultural activities.
