Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to preside over the grand national celebration marking the 150th birth anniversary of tribal freedom fighter Birsa Munda on November 15, 2025, at Dediapada in Gujarat’s Narmada district. The event will not only honor the tribal icon’s legacy but also spotlight Gujarat’s development momentum, as the Prime Minister unveils and lays the foundation stones for multiple projects valued at more than $1 billion.
According to state minister and spokesperson Jitu Vaghani, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi have already reviewed detailed arrangements in a cabinet meeting to ensure the event’s success. Special programs and cultural tributes will be held across the state, with the participation of ministers, MPs, MLAs, and senior officials to celebrate Birsa Munda’s enduring influence.
Vaghani emphasized that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, India has seen a renewed spirit of national pride through milestone commemorations such as Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 150th anniversary, 75 years of the Constitution, and the centenary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The 150th anniversary of Birsa Munda, he said, continues this legacy of honoring India’s heroes who shaped the nation’s identity.
Reflecting the Prime Minister’s vision of “Virāsat Bhī, Vikās Bhī” (Heritage and Development), the celebration places India’s tribal communities at the center of progress and national pride. Since 2021, November 15 has been observed as Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas nationwide to pay tribute to the contributions of tribal leaders in India’s freedom struggle.
Leading up to the event, Gujarat has been hosting statewide activities from November 1 to 15. Two Janjatiya Gaurav Yatras, beginning in Ambaji and Umargam, are traversing 14 tribal districts, witnessing the participation of nearly 600,000 people. These yatras include 82 health camps, 51 Seva Setu outreach initiatives, and cleanliness drives at over 2,500 sites, all culminating at Ekta Nagar on November 13.
In addition, 20 non-tribal districts are conducting various activities such as health drives, cultural plays, and community service programs focused on Birsa Munda’s life and ideals. The main national celebration at Dediapada will also feature a special theatrical presentation dedicated to the tribal hero, set against the spiritual backdrop of Devmogra Mata at Ekta Nagar—symbolizing unity, pride, and the spirit of tribal empowerment.
