At the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show in Greater Noida, Prime Minister Narendra Modi called on India to reduce dependence on other nations and chart an independent growth path. Highlighting Russia’s role as the country partner at the event, Modi described the collaboration as a “strengthening of a time-tested partnership,” with over 2,200 exhibitors showcasing products and services.
Modi emphasized Uttar Pradesh’s contribution to India’s industrial growth, noting that 55% of all mobile phones manufactured in India are produced in the state. He also highlighted the state’s emerging role in the semiconductor sector and in defence manufacturing. “Very soon, with support from Russia, we will start producing AK-203 rifles,” he said, adding that BrahMos missiles are already being manufactured in UP and that a dedicated defence corridor is under development.
The Prime Minister urged the nation to adopt the Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India) approach, turning global disruptions into opportunities for long-term growth. “Despite global uncertainties, India’s growth remains attractive. Disruptions don’t hinder us; they inspire new directions. Our mantra is Atmanirbhar Bharat. Nothing is more helpless than being dependent on others,” Modi stated.
Modi also stressed the need to prioritize homegrown manufacturing across sectors, from chips to ships, and called on traders and entrepreneurs to maintain high-quality standards. He encouraged investment in research and development, saying, “Trade, life, and the world stop when innovation stops. Private investment must now fuel a Swadeshi research and development ecosystem.”
The Prime Minister further highlighted initiatives such as the PM-SVANidhi scheme, which provides formal credit not just to large corporations but also to small businesses, hawkers, and food stall owners, enabling them to participate in India’s growing industrial landscape.
Modi’s address underscored India’s commitment to self-reliance, homegrown innovation, and strengthening strategic partnerships while fostering world-class manufacturing and technological capabilities across the nation.
