The newly established NGO, the Association of Indian American Minorities (AIAM), was officially launched on Friday at the Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church in Maryland. The organization aims to unite and advocate for the welfare of minority communities within the Indian American diaspora.
During the event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honored posthumously with the esteemed Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Global Peace Award for his contributions to minority upliftment. This award, jointly presented by AIAM and Washington Adventist University, recognizes his efforts toward inclusive development and the welfare of minority communities.
Jasdip Singh, a prominent Sikh philanthropist, was appointed as the Founder and Chairman of AIAM. He leads a seven-member Board of Directors representing a diverse cross-section of Indian minority communities, including Sikhs, Christians, Hindus, Muslims, and Jews.
AIAM Chairman Singh highlighted the organization’s role in supporting PM Modi’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision. Satnam Singh Sandhu, Member of Parliament and convener of the Indian Minorities Federation, emphasized Modi’s “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” approach, which promotes communal harmony and equal opportunities in India.
The launch event underscored AIAM’s mission to foster unity among Indian Americans and praised PM Modi for upholding India’s constitutional commitment to secularism, while condemning efforts to create communal divisions.
