Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday lauded the film The Sabarmati Report, which delves into the tragic Godhra train burning incident that took place on February 27, 2002, in Gujarat, resulting in the deaths of 59 people. PM Modi commended the film for its factual portrayal of the event.
Sharing a cinegoer’s post on the social media platform X, PM Modi expressed his thoughts about the film. “Well said. It is good that this truth is coming out, and that too in a way common people can see it,” he wrote.
PM Modi further remarked, “A fake narrative can persist only for a limited period of time. Eventually, the facts will always come out!” At the time of the train burning incident, PM Modi served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat.
The Prime Minister shared Alok Bhatt’s post on X, in which Bhatt described the film as a “must-watch.” Bhatt outlined four reasons why he believed the film was significant, emphasizing its effort to highlight a pivotal truth about one of the most shameful episodes in recent history.
“The makers of the film handled this issue with a lot of sensitivity and dignity,” Bhatt wrote. He reflected on how the horrific burning of passengers aboard the Sabarmati Express was manipulated for political purposes by vested interests aiming to tarnish the reputation of a particular leader. “Their ecosystem peddled one lie after another just to satisfy their own petty agenda,” he added.
Bhatt praised the film for giving voice to the 59 victims who lost their lives that fateful morning. “Finally, 59 innocent victims got to speak for themselves. Yes, as they say, truth alone triumphs. This movie is indeed a fitting tribute to those 59 innocent men, women, and children we lost that February morning,” he said.
The film, The Sabarmati Report, aims to chronicle the events of the morning of February 27, 2002, aboard the Sabarmati Express near the Godhra railway station in Gujarat. It attempts to shed light on the circumstances and repercussions of the tragic incident.
The Central Board of Film Certification granted The Sabarmati Report a U/A certificate with minimal cuts, citing strong violent scenes and some muted words. The film, which has a runtime of 126.51 minutes, showcases a sensitive yet impactful narrative.
Co-produced by Balaji Motion Pictures and Vikir Films Production, the movie features performances by Vikrant Massey, Ridhi Dogra, and Raashii Khanna, under the direction of Dheeraj Sarna.
